Overview

Chlorocyphidae are a family of damselflies common in south-east Asia and islands to our north, including New Guinea. Chlorocyphids are instantly recognisable by the abdomen being shorter than the wings. There are several nineteenth century records of the New Guinea species Rhinocypha tincta being found on Cape York, but there have been no recorded sightings in the 20th or 21st century. This species is pale blue and black, and the distal half of the wing is coloured a metallic blackish brown.
