Overview
The Piesmatidae can be easily mistaken for Tingidae due to their reticulated forewings and prothorax.
Piesmatids are phytophagous (plant feeding) and in Australia have been asscoiated mostly with
Acacia
spp. (Mimosaceae) though new host records have been reported for Caesalpiniaceae, Proteaceae and Santalaceae . There is little information available on the life history of these bugs.
Distribution
Australia has 4 species with disjunct distributions all belonging to the subfamily Piesmatinae and the genus
Mcateella
.
