Overview
The Heterogastridae were considered until recently to be a subfamily of the Lygaeidae. We have followed the revision by Henry (1997) and recognised them at family rank.
Nothing is known of the ecology of Australian species of Heterogastridae. Species found outside of Australia are known to feed on figs (Moraceae,
Ficus
).
Distribution
The Australian fauna comprises 6 species in 3 genera, which are all found in eastern and north-eastern areas of Queensland.
