Overview
The Ninidae were considered until recently by most workers to be a tribe (Ninini) of the subfamily Cyminae within the Lygaeidae. We have followed the revision by Henry (1997) and elevated it to family rank.
Very little is known of the Australian species. They are believed to live on the vegetation and feed on seed heads.
Ninus insignis
has been recorded from sugar cane.
Distribution
Only 2 species are known from Australia.
Cymoninus sechellensis
and
Ninus insignis
are both found in north-eastern Queensland.
