Description
Shining, dark brown or black beetles, with sharply curved, acute mandibles, visible beyond strongly transverse labrum, and 10-segmented antennae with a club resembling that in Geotrupidae. Larvae similar to those of Ceratocanthidae, but with 3 lobes on labrum, 4th antennal segment highly reduced and fused to 3rd, and fore and mid legs forming stridulating organ.
